AF AFOQT Practice

Why Composite Scores Matter

Your AFOQT score report does not show individual subtest scores. Instead, your performance is combined into six composite scores, and it is these composites that determine which Air Force career fields you qualify for.

The Six Composites

Pilot Composite

Measures aptitudes associated with success in pilot training. Subtests: Math Knowledge, Table Reading, Instrument Comprehension, Aviation Information.

The formal minimum is 25, but competitive candidates typically score 50 or higher.

Combat Systems Officer (CSO) Composite

Measures aptitudes for CSO roles. Subtests: Word Knowledge, Math Knowledge, Table Reading, Block Counting.

Air Battle Manager (ABM) Composite

Covers the broadest range of subtests: Verbal Analogies, Math Knowledge, Table Reading, Instrument Comprehension, Block Counting, Aviation Information.

Academic Aptitude Composite

General academic capability: Verbal Analogies, Arithmetic Reasoning, Word Knowledge, Math Knowledge, Reading Comprehension.

Verbal Composite

Verbal Analogies, Word Knowledge, Reading Comprehension.

Quantitative Composite

Arithmetic Reasoning, Math Knowledge.

Minimum Required Scores

All officer candidates must meet baseline minimums: Verbal 15, Quantitative 10.

Career FieldRequired Minimums
PilotPilot ≥ 25, CSO ≥ 10
Combat Systems OfficerCSO ≥ 25, Pilot ≥ 10
Air Battle ManagerABM ≥ 25
Non-rated officerNo additional composite minimums

Meeting the minimum does not guarantee selection. Selection boards evaluate the full candidate package.

How This Should Shape Your Study Plan

  • Aspiring pilots should prioritize Math Knowledge, Table Reading, Instrument Comprehension, and Aviation Information
  • CSO candidates should prioritize Word Knowledge, Math Knowledge, Table Reading, and Block Counting
  • Non-rated candidates should focus on the Verbal and Quantitative composites

Start with a practice test or review study guides by subtest.
